The Dough of Doom

Performance

In old Lebanese traditions, dough is made by the bride and then stuck by her on top of the door of her newlywed home in order to know the gender of the first child she will be carrying. This is symbolic of a new life and new beginnings.

From here came the concept behind this performance. In this performance, I represent Antigone, a bride to be who eventually dies. On one hand, this performance represents the acceptance of one’s fate no matter how cruel it is. On the other, it represents the irony of life. It is the idea that we could be easily cheated by life.  We might think that we have everything planned out and end up getting a totally different result than what we signed for. One could be easily tricked into believing that this performance could have a different ending, an ending that ends with joy when in reality it is utterly the opposite.
